COACHES CODE OF CONDUCT

  • The primary objective of the coach is to make the soccer experience safe, educational and fun for the children. At the end of their Arden Park soccer careers, we want the kids to be better players and more importantly, better people. The goal is not to win at all costs, but to develop independent and well-adjusted children.
  • The coach is responsible for the conduct of his/her sideline. Each coach is encouraged to talk to the parents and explain that cheering good play by both teams is encouraged. Yelling and/or giving direction to the players or the referees is unacceptable.
  • In both victory and defeat, coaches will act with grace, dignity, and composure. He/she teaches the players to do the same. A coach should never enter the field of play, question a referee or belittle the players. Each coach and player is encouraged to thank the opposing team and the referee after each game.
  • Soccer is the players’ game. The philosophy of the coach should be to teach at practice and to step back and let the players play during the games. The soccer coach does not micromanage his/her players during the game.
  • The coach should teach the players fair play and good sportsmanship. If a player is being disrespectful, the coach will remove him/her from the game.

FAQs

Do I need a coaching license?

If you have previously received a coaching license, or completed the online grassroots training for any module, you do not need to complete any further licensing for the upcoming season. At this time we do not have a schedule for the in-person licensing courses and plan to require only the online courses for the upcoming season.

Do I have to provide my own gear?

The club provides the following equipment: cones, training vests, game ball, ball pump, first aid kit, ice packs and goalie gear (U12 and older).

Practice goals and balls are not provided by the club.

Do I need a coaching badge?

Yes, this is mandatory. Each coach and assistant coach must wear his/her badge while on the field at all times. This includes during practices and games. Coach badges and passes will be distributed to all registered coaches at the annual coach’s meeting before the season begins. For coaches registered after the meeting, the badges will be available for pick up through the club registrar.

Does the club offer additional training for both new and experienced coaches?

Arden Park Soccer Club is committed to coach development and we refund the licensing fees for all new coaches or returning coaches interested in growing with their team through the grassroots online licensing courses.  We are actively working to create additional in-person opportunities to help train coaches through summer skills camps, goalie camps, and by attending practices or providing support when requested. Please reach out to info@apsoccer.org for more personalized assistance.
